Preparing your Will in the correct way allows you to decide who should benefit from your Estate. If you die without having made a Will (also known as dying intestate), your Estate will be distributed in accordance with a set of statutory rules. This could lead to your assets being passed to someone who may not want to benefit.

Why make a Will?

  • You will be able to identify who you wish to look after your Estate following your death.
  • You can name the people you trust to do so rather than those who would be entitled to do so if you died intestate.
  • You can appoint someone to be the legal guardian of your children, if your children happen to be under 18 years of age.

The main purpose of your Will is to outline who should benefit from your Estate and in what proportions they are to inherit it.

If you are leaving someone out of your Will, we’re happy to advise on any potential claims that could be made against your Estate, and what you need to consider to protect it.

We recommend a Will review with us every 3 to 5 years. This is to ensure it still reflects your wishes and that you are aware of any changes in the law in relation to Inheritance Tax.
